John has more than 20 years' experience in organising 4WD tours. We are excited about organising tours and sharing the passion, love and knowledge of this amazing part of New Zealand with everyone.

Owner operated, High Country Journeys specialises in organising customised tours for clients. We have a variety of tour packages, some of which are fully customisable according to individual requirements.

**Self-Drive, Self-Guide Tour**
A 6 day, 7 night self-drive package, this tour runs from January to late April. It includes six days of 4WDing; all track fees; fully serviced accommodation in up-market farm stays (including linen, breakfast, lunches and dinners) and complete 'Journey Manual' with maps and directions.

**Fully-Guided Self-Drive (Tag-a-long) Tours**
This tour is for those who want a more personal, laidback yet an adventurous trip. 
We have 2 packages for this tour:
- 6 days and 7 nights fully guided tour
- 5 days and 6 nights fully guided tour

**Passenger, Corporate and Personalised Tours**
This tour can be personalised according to your needs. We can organise 2 to 3 days packages for corporate and family groups and also put together an itinerary that will allow you to realise your expectations and get the most out of your 4WD experience.

The latest addition to the Govett-Brewster - the Len Lye Centre - is New Zealand's first institution dedicated to a single artist, the pioneering filmmaker and kinetic sculptor, Len Lye.

With its curved exterior walls of mirror-like stainless steel, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre is the country's first example of destination architecture linked to contemporary art and is one of the country's most iconic buildings.

Founded on a visionary exhibition and collection policy in 1970, we continue to court the radical, seek the new and provide a space for engagement and dialogue for people from all walks of life.

Located in the coastal city of New Plymouth, New Zealand, where WOMAD is held each year and the mighty Mount Taranaki volcano dominates the landscape, our independence from the larger cities sets us apart and provides us a measure of freedom. A freedom and sense of self-determination keenly felt by our founder, New Plymouth-born Monica Brewster, when she dreamed of an art museum for her city.

With her courage and vision, we established the museum in the city's decommissioned heritage cinema, and opened with a groundbreaking exhibition and multi-sensory installation, and continue to present innovative and provocative work by New Zealand and international artists.

Experience innovative and provocative work by New Zealand and international artists, an ever-changing exhibition programme, giant kinetic works, a regular event and education programme, daily tours and a late-night on Thursdays. 

## Gallery Venue
Our quarterly film programme in the 62-seat Len Lye Centre Cinema plays daily, and the cinema is also a welcoming environment for audiences to experience Len Lye's films, local and international cinema, arthouse and experimental films, and regular film festival programming. For something a little different, the Govett-Brewster Shop is not your usual tat. ## Art Cafe - Monica's Eatery
Monica's Eatery, adjacent to the Govett-Brewster, is an international art cafe inspired by the life and spirit of Monica Brewster, a globetrotter even before the golden age of air travel and founding patron of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery. Open seven days for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Pohatu Penguins is a family-run business with a long-standing history of protecting the Korora (Little Penguin). The colony survival is accredited to Shireen and Francis Helps who have cared for the penguins for 30+ years.

When the Helps first began their conservation work the penguins faced massive challenges that threatened their very existence. These challenges included predation via introduced predators such as dogs, cats, ferrets and stoats, gill net fishing and other human disturbances. Colonies around Banks Peninsula declined at an alarming rate and most disappeared altogether. Through predator trapping, monitoring, rehabilitation and immense dedication the Helps have stabilized the Pohatu Colony - and it continues to grow! In addition to their penguin conservation work the Helps family have also, for many years, protected native forests and other endemic species. Their work helped found the award-winning Wildside Conservation Project.

To this day, the Helps family continue to be leaders in conservation.

Their efforts continue to be fully self-funded via Pohatu Penguins tours.

Small group tours run from Akaroa over one of the most scenic back country roads by 4WD van to Pohatu/ Flea Bay and Pohatu marine reserve, a beautiful sheltered bay out on the wild south eastern corner of Banks Peninsula and home to the largest Little Penguin Colony on mainland New Zealand with over 2000 penguins breeding there.
