Marlborough is situated in the north-east corner of the South Island. It is easily accessible by ferry, train, air, or road.

Marlborough's main town, Blenheim, has a population of 24,183 and is the hub of the famous Marlborough wine district. Naturally, the town features many fine restaurants focused on local wines and food. It also has a stylish public art gallery, a museum and colonial village, glorious public and private gardens to visit, theatres and cinemas and shops to explore.

From Blenheim you can take wine and food tours, garden tours, river boat cruises or start a day exploring from the i-SITE Visitor Centre at Blenheim Railway Station.

MRC was established in 1984 by a group of far-sighted horticulturalists, farmers and politicians who saw the need for locally based scientific research to help the province progress.

A Charitable Trust was set up at that time to ensure the Marlborough region made the best use of its natural resources by assisting innovative research and technical development in agriculture, pastoral, horticultural and viticulture production.

The Marlborough Research Centre Trust owns and manages MRC properties in Blenheim and Grovetown and  works closely with the Marlborough District Council, Crown Research Institutes and other key sector groups and organisations.

Stuart has been the Member of Parliament for the Kaikoura electorate since 2014.

In Parliament Stuart is the Opposition Spokesperson for EQC and Civil Defence. He is also a member of several caucus committees including the Agricultural Caucus Committee, the Regional Development Caucus Committee, GLOBE, and the Rural Broadband Initiative working group.  Stuart is also the National party spokesperson for Viticulture.

Having grown up on a Mid-Canterbury sheep farm, Stuart has been involved in primary industry his whole life. He was a sheep and deer farmer before relocating to Marlborough and moving into grape-growing, later setting up his own wine-making business. Subsequently he was Chair of New Zealand Winegrowers, inducted as a Fellow for services to the wine industry, President of the New Zealand Grape Growers Council, and Chair of Wine Marlborough Ltd.

Stuart has been involved in many community initiatives. He was Chair of the Marlborough Water Augmentation Project, and also Chair of the Southern Valleys Irrigation Scheme Marlborough District Council sub-committee. 

Stuart was a founding member and co-spokesperson for Save Our Services, a group which successfully advocated for the retention of 24/7 acute surgical and orthopaedic services at Wairau Hospital.

He lives in Blenheim with his wife Julie and their three children.
