About Verkerks
The Verkerk name has been synonymous with fine, traditional European small goods and specialty meats since 1956. This was the date that Aalt Verkerk, a Dutch immigrant butcher and small goods manufacturer, purchased a property on the corner of Armagh and Manchester Streets in Christchurch, New Zealand, and established his renowned butchery and deli.
Aalt saw a huge void in the New Zealand marketplace for quality European-style salamis, small goods and specialty meats such as Dutch style roast and hot beef, prosciutto, pastrami and bacon products. He immediately set about the task of recreating the very best that Europe butcheries and delicatessens had to offer, using traditional family recipes and quality local ingredients.
Today, five decades on, Verkerks, which is still family-owned, is recognized as New Zealands finest salami maker, with 15 varieties in their salami range. The company has grown from its small beginnings into a large and sophisticated meat processing and small goods manufacturing business, creating a wide variety of products that range from spicy chorizo sausage to classic hams, corned beef to American streaky bacon, frankfurters to pizza salami and many more.

What makes us different
Our traditional small goods are made by naturally smoking, fermenting and drying quality meat and spices using Aalts traditional European recipes. We have a wide range of salami, continental sausages and more specialty meats to try.
