Good place for a family gathering. Staff are friendly but service is a bit slow for non-peak hours.
Food is ok - I've been here a couple of times and the steaks are either hit or miss, so quality consistency can do a little improvement.
I would still go back as most of my experience in this restaurant have been positive and there are still lots of food to try.
The food was absolutely amazing ! Best well done steak ever and that garlic mash was just perfect . The lamb shank was also cooked to such perfection. Couldn't find a single flaw in the food , atmosphere or staff . Thank you ! Will definitely recommend to others and will be back again !!
If you come here and crumbed mushrooms are on the menu, do not hesitate to order them. They are absolutely delicious! Love coming here for a good steak (with garlic mash and mushroom sauce) & I always try and order the mushrooms too when I can. Great place to come for a meal, the atmosphere is great and the staff are very friendly!
Lovely food, alright service but it's always so cold with the air conditioning. You often see people sit down, take their outside jackets off, only to put them back on minutes later. When we spoke to the maître d', he apologised, but it's always the same when we go. The waiters don't notice because they are running around
Very nice dining environment and haven't had a problem with the service. Rather expensive for what you get, my steak was ok but nothing amazing. Chips were nice, would have been nicer if it was served with chips AND a side salad. I would describe my whole experience as OK- Would consider going back if prices were slightly decreased.
We too had a poor experience at Porterhouse Grill ... it was my birthday and we got the entire family together (some of them had travelled from Taranaki) to have dinner at Porterhouse. My wife ordered her steak Medium to Welldone (no blood) this was re-iterated to the waiter at the time ... unfortunately when the steak arrived it seemed to be even more rare than the "Medium Rare" that I had ordered ... so she asked the waiter if she could have a new steak ... as re-cooking the current one would ruin the sauces etc ... the waiter agreed and took it away.
Unfortunately a couple of minutes later the waiter came back with the same steak ... when we complained the manager was called by the waiter (he apparently owns the store) ... instead of being apologetic, he was adamant about defending his position saying that he had owned the store for 5.5 years, and had been in the industry for 14 years blah blah blah ... none of this was acceptable for us as we simply didn't like being deceived by bad service. No form of compensation was offered and by the time the confrontation with the "manager" had finished, everyone else was finishing up their meals ... so unfortunately my wife had to eat what she had been given.
To be honest, my steak wasn't great either ... and the drinks were over priced ... for the money we paid for our meals I'd prefer to go elsewhere. We definitely won't be coming back and will be telling people to avoid this place in the future.
The place was packed to the brim with people and obviously making a huge profit ... a little bit of "customer service" goes a long way sometimes, I hope my message gets out and that people stop coming to Porterhouse Grill.
Exceeded my expectations. My husband and I went to Porterhouse Grill last night and found that the food is top notch, the servings bigger than expected, everything was done beautifully. The service is noteworthy. I forgot to take the male staff's name, he was very nice. And our wait staff, Becky, was fantastic and made great recommendations. We are raving about this and plan to take the family along next time. And I have decided I'll forego the entree next time to make room for some dessert. :) Highly recommended.

Had a horrible experience at Porterhouse Grill in Pakuranga.
The venue is lovely- tastefully decorated, very modern, quite cosy and there's a small outdoor area. I liked my first impression.
As we entered we were greeted and seated right away- even without a booking which was great.
We ordered our drinks and meals- entree of scallops and mains of ribs and a chicken burger. The entree came out in a timely manner which again, was great but thats about as good as the experience was.
The scallops arrived- 5 scallops for $17 odd dollars. They were cooked okay but were drenched in a sauce that was strange and didnt suit the scallops. Also came with a side of mesculin. I overlooked this hoping that my main would be better.
After some time our plates and cutlery were cleared ready for main to arrive.
Mains arrived and looked fantastic but as we began to eat it just got worse. The ribs were horrible. They tasted of some wierd plum/jammy flavour, it seemed as though the sauce wasnt reduced enough or the chef hadnt tasted it but it was horrible. Garlic mash was dry and had been sitting a round for a while and didnt taste of garlic.We couldnt eat the ribs which is the absolute first time we have not been able to finish a plate of ribs.
The chicken burger was dry, bun was dry, breast was dry, it lacked flavour and again was horrible. The highlight of the burger was a garlic sauce which was really just a white sauce with a bit of garlic in it- it definitely wasnt worth raving about. The best thing on the burger plate were the chips.
The service was poor- we had to ask for cutlery for our meals, we were never asked if we wanted more drinks or even desert.
Overall I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. It is pricey, the service lacks and the food is horrible. There are much better places in the area to go to that are more reasonably priced. This place served food worse than pub food.
