Only a few of us enjoy perfect hearing. Ageing, machinery or illness take their toll, creating fluctuations in our hearing.
Eighteen percent of people aged 45 to 54, and at least 47 percent of people aged over 60 have impaired hearing. Many of us hear better in one ear than the other, or suffer from ringing in our ears, called tinnitus.
And over one billion teenagers and young adults risk hearing loss due to the unsafe use of personal audio devices or from going to nightclubs and loud concerts.
So we all miss out on being able to fully enjoy listening to recorded music. If we turn up the volume to compensate, we risk causing more hearing loss.
