After dining at She across the road a few times my partner and I thought we would 'shake things up' and give Governors Bay Hotel a try. We made a booking and were seated on the decking area overlooking views of the harbour and surrounding hills. It was a pleasant view though does overlook the road. It was a busy Sunday afternoon and this may have influenced the service we received, which I though could have been better. To elaborate on this been given a menu would have been a good start. I did see others receiving a menu when greeted at the bar so maybe just a lapse in service. There was a relaxing atmosphere even when busy which I appreciate is difficult to retain. I did hear one customer dissatisfied with service after waiting 45 minutes without receiving their food. We were informed of the delay. We received our order in a timely fashion of 25 minutes, which was great. Unfortunately the food did not live up to our expectations. There was nothing wrong with the food and it was well presented. I found the Vegetarian Frittata of spiced pumpkin, spinach and feta lacked flavour. I struggled to taste anything other than egg and it was not seasoned correctly. The Vegetarian Burrito on the specials was enjoyable though and worth a try. Worthy of 3 stars. A good place to have a break after the coastal walk from Gov Bay Jetty to Allandale Reserve.
We had been before for drinks and thought it would be worth a try for food sometime so when we did go we were not disappointed. Its a great place to eat and drink, well situated and pleasant atmosphere. The food was excellent and the menu got the taste buds going. We will return again.
