I had my eyes tested by Rob before & after cataract surgery. I found his advice to be very helpful. While my eyes settled down after surgery he leant me some temporary reading glasses to tide me over. It is necessary for me to continue wearing spectacles which he prescribed. These were very moderately priced and have improved the comfort of my eyes. Maryam helped me with choosing frames that not only fitted (no mean task on my small face) but are flattering too. Everyone was very helpful & friendly.
While Gary Filer present themselves as a high quality optometrist with good service, I have recently found them to be very pushy with their sales, and very very expensive.
My family have used them for the past 10 years because we were referred to them, but the prices have steadily risen. My last pair cost about $500 altogether, but the current pair which I got two years ago cost more like $800, and this year my father was quoted a $1200 pair before he decided to go elsewhere and get them for at least half the price.
In the past they have been accommodating with problems with glasses, offering to fix or replace them, so I saw it as a guarantee that their glasses were of good quality and would last a decent amount of time.
But a recent experience where my warranty had only just expired has shown me that they would much rather push you into buying a new pair and they do not seem to understand the money restraints of a student or family. They recommend the best quality, making it seem like anything less would be unthinkable, but for $800 I expect my glasses to last more than 2 years before being unusable.
I used to think I was getting quality with Gary Filer, but if I had known how long this pair would have lasted, I would never have spent so much.
I have been dealing with the Gary Filer Optometrist for several years now. They are very good at reminders and making sure that I am happy with the products I purchase. I have regular check ups and the staff are friendly and professional, I recommend them for anyone that likes that personal touch.
