I rang Gary filer last week to try and retrieve an exam result I had in 2012.They offered to e-mail it to me to no avail.I rang again on tuesday 05-09-2017 and yesterday I e-mailed them.Today I am still waiting for the e-mail.E-mails do not take two weeks to send so I am not happy and may complain to the NZAO or disabilities commission.I believe this is a breach of my righs.By the way the first phone call the lady told me I was due for another exam so I explained I have had my eyes tested and they are fine so all I need is the results of the exam so if I go somewhere else I can get the correct script for my eyes. This is my experience thus far and obvious I will never go back so be warned folks and also spec savers offer free basic eye exams every two years for AA members. That is the AA break down service not AA insurance
I have been with gary Filer for a good 20 years before I chose another optometrist.. I must say their service compared to where I went is outstanding. yes they ae more expenisve but it beats the aforementioned "other Optmetrist"
I found the atmosphere relaxing, clean, and not shoved in and out of cubby holes quite well worth the extra I paid. The lenses are definitely alot more expensive, but you pay for quality. I cannot believe what I have read, so I have taken the time to set the record straight. I will never use another optometrist again, and the staff at Gary Filer including Gary Filer himself are top of the class, and humourous on a cloudy day to say the least. I would rather pay more for quality and the service, and at the end of the day, they are compaitvely not really expensive at all.
I had my eyes tested by Rob before & after cataract surgery. I found his advice to be very helpful. While my eyes settled down after surgery he leant me some temporary reading glasses to tide me over. It is necessary for me to continue wearing spectacles which he prescribed. These were very moderately priced and have improved the comfort of my eyes. Maryam helped me with choosing frames that not only fitted (no mean task on my small face) but are flattering too. Everyone was very helpful & friendly.
While Gary Filer present themselves as a high quality optometrist with good service, I have recently found them to be very pushy with their sales, and very very expensive.
My family have used them for the past 10 years because we were referred to them, but the prices have steadily risen. My last pair cost about $500 altogether, but the current pair which I got two years ago cost more like $800, and this year my father was quoted a $1200 pair before he decided to go elsewhere and get them for at least half the price.
In the past they have been accommodating with problems with glasses, offering to fix or replace them, so I saw it as a guarantee that their glasses were of good quality and would last a decent amount of time.
But a recent experience where my warranty had only just expired has shown me that they would much rather push you into buying a new pair and they do not seem to understand the money restraints of a student or family. They recommend the best quality, making it seem like anything less would be unthinkable, but for $800 I expect my glasses to last more than 2 years before being unusable.
I used to think I was getting quality with Gary Filer, but if I had known how long this pair would have lasted, I would never have spent so much.
Unless you have buckets to spend, go elsewhere.
I have been dealing with the Gary Filer Optometrist for several years now. They are very good at reminders and making sure that I am happy with the products I purchase. I have regular check ups and the staff are friendly and professional, I recommend them for anyone that likes that personal touch.
