About Danish Consulate General

In the Diplomats category, the Royal Danish Consulate General is located in Wellington. We are here to help you.

Most information can be found on our WebSite: http://newzealand.um.dk/.
Please check out our website before calling or emailing!

VISAS: 90 DAY VISA FREE:
New Zealanders can freely enter & stay in Denmark for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, regardless of whether they have stayed in another Schengen country prior to entry into Denmark.
The 90 days are counted from the entry date into Denmark. If you have spent time in Denmark within the previous 180 days, that time will be deducted from the 90-day maximum.
Full information on the bilateral visa agreements between Denmark and New Zealand (and other countries) can be found on our website: http://australien.um.dk/en/travel-and-residence/short-stay-visas/bilateral-visa-agreements and https://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-us/coming_to_dk/visa/Visa_free_travel.htm.
For further information please contact the visa office at the Danish Immigration Service as stated on the website. Please remember that if you travel according to the bilateral agreement, the burden of proof for legal stay in Denmark is on the traveller. That means that you must provide documentation if requested, that you travelled to and stayed in Denmark according to the bilateral agreement. Therefore it is a good idea to ask for your passport to be stamped as you enter and leave Denmark, and to keep train/flight/ferry tickets, accommodation receipts etc.

NEW ZEALAND DRIVER LICENCE REQUIREMENTS
See https://www.nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/new-residents-and-visitors/driving-on-nz-roads/
You must have your current and valid driver licence or driving permit with you at all times when youre driving in New Zealand.
If your overseas licence or driver permit is not in English, and you do not carry an International Licence, you must also carry an accurate English translation issued by:
- a diplomatic representative at a high commission, embassy or consulate, or
- a translation service approved by the NZTA, or
- the authority that issued your licence.
Please note that if you will be in New Zealand for more than a year, you need to obtain a New Zealand driver licence. You will find details of how to do that in the link above.

The Danish Consulate routinely provides Danish people with a translation of their Danish Driver Licence and would be pleased to make a translation for you - by appointment.
Please note there is a fee of $55 for this service.
Please contact the Consulate to make an appointment if you would like this service.
