Second visit in as many weeks. Can't stay away, took my wife along who also loved this place. Within the space of a week the lab had two new types of beans to try - as espresso in my case. Yet again both just out of this world. One of the rare coffee places where espresso tastes like s whole new beverage - basically on another level. Go here. Go here. Go here.
Hard to follow a review as eloquently descriptive as mi Julie's (ya hear mi). Every ting that fine gal say be true, the lab be ram jam with the finest coffee beans.
The signs were good from the moment I walked in, a menu of beans to suit different brewing methods - hallelujah - coffee shops take note. I tried a Bolivian espresso that just about blew the back doors off, so sweet. An Ethiopian that was more earthy and not as syrupy but still great, and a piccolo not sure of the roast but great way to finish.
Either way I'm afraid to say Arl in Takapuna that coffee lab is now my official number one serious coffee shop in auckland
The Coffee Lab. A place of magic.... a place of soft milky foam and ethically sourced beans spilling from the doors like over-ripened bananas from the fruit store (but much tastier).
A place where the coffee is so smooth you'll think you've been slapped in the uvula by a small (but accurate) bit of fine silk. It's velvety. It's delicious. Every coffee that has danced across my palate from the Coffee Lab has been above average... and has been constructed beautifully by the enchanting gnomes behind the counter.... known to some as baristas. Delicate flowers, hearts, and my future have appeared in my cappuccino foam.
And the food? Well... I haven't tried it, but everything on the menu looks so good I'd lick the chalk off the blackboard.
Give it a try. It's amazing java---- coffee with a conscience... and totally worth the trip to the North Shore if you're in the city.
