About Architects 44 Ltd

Architects 44 was established in April 2011 to provide to their clients a personalised and quality service that reflected form, function and enduring aesthetics in an unique, bespoke design outcome.

Architects 44 (A44) is the single largest Architectural Design practice in the Gisborne / East Coast region with 7 staff members including 3 Registered Architects, Dan King, James Blackburne and Graeme Nicoll, with over 75 years' combined experience. Clients can choose who they wish to work with, while having 3 Registered Architects allows for robust design review and collaboration within the practice. We would like to think that we don't have a particular style that defines us, as we wish to reflect the desires of our clients rather than our own ideologies.

The practice has a proven track record of providing comprehensive services that address the cultural, functional, environmental and technical requirements of their projects with innovation, lateral thinking and team co-operation, based on sound experience.

A44 is a diversified practice with a reputation for combining professional expertise with design flair, whatever the project.

The broad scope of work, undertaken by A44 ranges from:- new homes, schools and from conservation reports and work on historic buildings, to commercial offices, shops, industrial buildings and retirement homes.
Project values have ranged from $50,000 house small alterations and additions to large $7 million dollar school projects.

Management type roles, include being property managers for many schools, and developing their 10YPP and 5YA plans including condition reports.

Conservation reports especially when for historic churches and marae, often involve our advice on making application to Lotteries Board for funding.

Even if you are just thinking about your options come and see us as we also prepare development plans and feasibility studies.

Based in Gisborne we undertake work from Wairoa to the top of the East Cape, as well as projects in the Eastern Bay of Plenty to as far afield as Auckland and Wanaka, our technical abilities and in house management continue to provide fresh and innovative solutions.

What makes us different

We are experienced in all aspects of Design, Construction and Project Management. Architects 44 has also repaired and reinforced many commercial and public buildings in Gisborne and other places in the North Island.
