General Info

Habitat for Humanity Nelson is a housing nonprofit organisation. It is part of an affiliated Habitat network, working in over 70 countries worldwide towards our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. In pursuit of this vision, Habitat Nelson provides a range of programmes aimed at building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter in the Nelson Tasman region. Our programmes allow families in need to either end up owning their own place in Nelson/Tasman region (through rent-to-buy programmes called Progressive Home Ownership) or help them otherwise through social rentals or repair homes to live in a decent and affordable place.

What Makes Us Different
We try to solve the housing problems local families have. We partner with low- to mid-income Nelson families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to achieve home ownership without some support. Local whanau are selected because of their clear and obvious housing need, a strong demonstration of a willingness to partner with Habitat Nelson, and their potential to successfully make a shift to home ownership.

Great place for secondhand goods, although do wear a jacket when you go there as there is NO heating! It is essentially a big tin shed that gets very cold. Always lots of bargains to be found though, and it is usually reasonably priced!

There are some really well priced clothes here! Mostly women's wear. Located out of Nelson City in the industrial area in Tahuna, it has plenty of off street parking. The store can be really cold and dark and dreary in winter. The ladies are generally friendly and helpful.

Great selection of used goods here. Find some of the stuff a bit over priced but its for a good cause so dont mind paying a little extra for second hand stuff.

A good place to shop if you're looking for something extra that you need around the house. The volunteers are extremely lovely to talk to. They do a good job considering there is a lot of stuff always donated to them that they have to sort through. As a result from all the donations stuff can be a bit all over the place, but that's fine just take your time having a look through it and you definitely will find something good and the money goes to a good cause. They have a good section of little garden plants, a lot of tools and outdoor equipment, a great selection of books and plenty of furniture. I recommend doing the fill-a-bag for $2 and taking time to go through the books. A great place to find something to re-purpose. The money you spend goes to a good cause.
