- What Makes Us Different
- We try to solve the housing problems local families have. We partner with low- to mid-income Nelson families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to achieve home ownership without some support. Local whanau are selected because of their clear and obvious housing need, a strong demonstration of a willingness to partner with Habitat Nelson, and their potential to successfully make a shift to home ownership.
General Info
Habitat for Humanity Nelson is a housing nonprofit organisation. It is part of an affiliated Habitat network, working in over 70 countries worldwide towards our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. In pursuit of this vision, Habitat Nelson provides a range of programmes aimed at building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter in the Nelson Tasman region. Our programmes allow families in need to either end up owning their own place in Nelson/Tasman region (through rent-to-buy programmes called Progressive Home Ownership) or help them otherwise through social rentals or repair homes to live in a decent and affordable place.

Great place for secondhand goods, although do wear a jacket when you go there as there is NO heating! It is essentially a big tin shed that gets very cold. Always lots of bargains to be found though, and it is usually reasonably priced!

A good place to shop if you're looking for something extra that you need around the house. The volunteers are extremely lovely to talk to. They do a good job considering there is a lot of stuff always donated to them that they have to sort through. As a result from all the donations stuff can be a bit all over the place, but that's fine just take your time having a look through it and you definitely will find something good and the money goes to a good cause. They have a good section of little garden plants, a lot of tools and outdoor equipment, a great selection of books and plenty of furniture. I recommend doing the fill-a-bag for $2 and taking time to go through the books. A great place to find something to re-purpose. The money you spend goes to a good cause.

Great selection of used goods here. Find some of the stuff a bit over priced but its for a good cause so dont mind paying a little extra for second hand stuff.

On the road to the airport and well worth calling in. We found a super 'old-time' toy pram for our granddaughter. A touch up with some cream paint and almost brand new!! Reasonable prices as well, and a good cause to support.
