Maharaja Indian Restaurant

The first time we went here food was amazing. Other times it was a bit hit and miss. It is up there as one of the best Indian Restaurants in Christchurch. A bit pricey compared to others but the building is beautiful so worthwhile to go there for a special occasion.

Hm it auto selects very good on 3.5 stars but there are a couple of things that let this place down: the one I wanted to mention is the lack of wait staff training. The young girls are very subservient to an embarrassing degree; they collapse mentally a bit - even though my mate was being a tiny bit hard on them, nothing really bad he was just trying to find some spunk/personality in them I think. They need to be assertive and expect people to pause to let them put the food down without acting like scared mice. They are lovely girls they just need to be a bit more ballsy so it's not too embarrassing. Maybe with experience they will be really good. It honestly made me want to get out of there and not consider desserts or coffee. The food was standardly good, parking excellent, and tables FELT very close together somehow. Would go there again with others but I wouldn't be suggesting it to people in my top 5 Indian restaurants in town.

Very friendly staff, and the food was delicious. My kids really loved their butter chicken and lamb korma, the meats were nice and tender. Thank you for giving our trip from a great start

Great authentic Indian food. All seemed to be cooked from scratch. Good sized portions. Great service from staff. Good prices too. Would visit again. 5 stars
