About Amanda van de Klundert
I began Yoga 20 years ago whilst working in the corporate world. My yoga practise helped me deal with the stress of work life and provided me with a great sense of balance. I soon became addicted. Yoga became so much more than a physical experience and more of a connection and nurturing for my inner self.

Whilst living in Australia, Asia and Europe I practised many different styles and visited various workshops and retreats. In 2013, I felt ready to complete my Yoga Alliance Teaching Certification and share with others the great benefits Yoga can bring.

Demelza, the principal teacher at Iyengar Yoga Dunedin discovered Iyengar yoga while recovering from several surgeries. After only a few classes she discovered improvements to both her physical and over all wellbeing. Having studied for several years with Jyoteeka Cummings in Palmerston North, Demelza started her teacher training with Rosie Holland of Nelson under Jyoteekas guidance. She regularly studies with Sue Scott from Melbourne and has studied with the Iyengar family in Pune, India. Having recently moved to Dunedin Demelza is the only certified Iyengar teacher in the city.

Special for Super Gold Card holders @ $10.00 a class.'Shala' in the Sanskrit language means 'home'.&nbsp;&nbsp;Buddhi Shala is a place of yogic practices in alignment with the sutra of Patanjali and the tradition of Ashtanga.&nbsp;"Ashtanga" literally means eight limbs.&nbsp;Patanjali described these as: Yama.(abstinences), Niyama (Observances), Asana (Postures), Pranayama (Breath Control), Pratyahara (Sense withdrawal), Dharana (Concentration), Dhyana (Meditation), and Samadhi (Contemplation).&nbsp;&nbsp;The practice links a series of postures (asana) in a continuous flow with the rhythm of breath. Through the yogic practice of breathing, postures (asanas), and gazing point (drishti), we gain control of our senses and develop deep awareness of ourselves.Steadiness of body and mind can be acquired through practice with regularity and devotion.&nbsp;&nbsp;When practiced in this way it is possible to energise, purify, and strengthen the energetic and physical system. **True North Yoga Northland** offers 60-90 minute Iyengar Yoga and HIIT Fitness classes (High Intensity Interval Training) and occasionally some Dance Fitness. 

All fitness levels are catered for, beginners are most welcome, in a fun and friendly workout environment. Classes are currently held at Ahipara Fire Station and Rangiputa Fire Station at the times below.

**About Iyengar Yoga:** 

Iyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas.

Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, as aids in performing asanas (postures). The props enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimising the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old.

Unlike more experiential approaches where students are encouraged to independently "find their way" to the asanas by imitating the teacher, an Iyengar Yoga class is highly verbal and precise, with misalignments and errors actively corrected.
