Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust originated from the old Mangere Hospital where many clients were institutionalised in a system that proved inappropriate and insensitive to Maori.

In August 1992, concerned employees organised hui (meetings) journeying up and down the country asking whanau what they wanted for their intellectually disabled mokopuna. It was a time consuming process, but it became clear that an independent kaupapa Maori service that identified the needs of Maori mokopuna was required.

Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau is an accredited and certificated New Zealand kaupapa Maori service provider for intellectually disabled people.

Our philosophical belief is to provide people with an intellectual disability the best possible quality of life, a safe and healthy environment and support that promotes personal dignity and respect at all times.

STRIVE Training Academy provides a range of Youth & Adult training programes.

We are registered and accredited with NZQA and the trust has a 'preferred provider status' with Child, Youth & Family.

To introduce the idea that there's no free lunch, we sell $2 Lunches on site. Transport to and from homes is also available.

**Youth Training -**

- Youth Choices: This 40-week course offers National Certificates Level 1 in Work & Community Skills, as well as Educational Achievement
- Young People Owning Direction: This 40-week course offers National Certificates Level 1 & 2 in Educational Achievement

**Adult Training -**

- Learning Nest: A 48-week course that focuses on teaching the learner how to learn
- Language & Literacy Skills L1: A 48-week course that focuses on achieving a combination of ESOL & Supported Learning Level 1 unit standards towards the National Certificate in Work & Community Skills
- Language & Literacy Skills L2: A 48 week course focusing on a higher level of ESOL unit standards & achieving or completing the National Certificate in Work & Community Skills Level 1 & gaining unit standard towards the National Certificate in Employment Skills

The Auckland City Mission provides free social services to struggling Aucklanders, including:  
- Food for individuals, families and community foodbanks 
- Support for older people and the homeless 
- Drug and alcohol detoxification services 
- Healthcare 
- Advocacy 
- Food parcels and gifts at Christmas
- Annual Christmas lunch for 2000 people 

To continue providing its services, the Mission relies on donations of food & goods and the generosity of the Auckland public to support its fundraising campaigns. 

The Mission also raises funds through its New Beginnings shops in the CBD, Glen Innes, and Takapuna, where donated goods that are excess to requirements are sold.

Hutt Valley Activity Centre is one of 14 Activity Centres in New Zealand that cater for secondary school students (Years 9-13) who are at risk of disengaging from mainstream schooling and at risk of low educational, social and vocational outcomes.

Activity Centres provide a specialised learning programme which will lead to increased attendance, engagement and achievement at school, social outcomes and successful transition rates. Registered teachers support students to increase their achievement and engagement in education guided by an Individual Learning Programme (ILP) which is responsive to the needs of each student. The ILP details the students learning goals and is developed in partnership with the student, teacher, parents/whnau and enrolling school.

A key component of the programme for activity centre students is to successfully transition back into the enrolling school or move on to further education or employment.

Hutt Valley High School is the managing school for this activity centre. The school Board of Trustees holds governance responsibility for the Activity Centre and is responsible for providing high quality educational service in a physically and emotionally safe learning environment.
