The Back Porch Cafe

We received a warm welcome and were directed to a large table overlooking the outdoor patio and fire place.

We kicked off with the happy hour trio of martinis for $45 - staring with a dry one and ending up with a sweet one. An interesting experience for both of us as we don’t drink martinis.

Our waitress, who was from Argentina, was charming and helpful.

We worked our way through the trio of duck (smoked, parfait and terrine) [fantastic especially the parfait], the cheese soufflé [tasty but slightly rubbery - suspect it was twice baked], duck a l’orange and pork belly with prunes [very tasty but could have done with more sauce].

We also tried the French fried with Parmesan and truffle oil - they were crisp and would go well with the steak dishes on offer.

We finished with a tart rhubarb tartane - delicious but not sure the strawberry ice-cream was a good match.

The wine list covered all the bases and was reasonably priced.

Nice setting.

It suffices to say we will be back.

This place is both casual and sophisticated. One of the best places to eat and drink in Mt Maunganui. Can't wait to stop in for a delicious meal and drink.

Really nice indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of choices for appetizing food. Coffee was excellent! Recommended.

Felt absolutely sorry for the kitchen hand girl who was running about everywhere.

We had a lovely brunch here. I enjoyed my bacon and eggs, the poached eggs were done as I asked. Nice flat white coffee too. Nice courtyard area to hang with friends and eat yummy food.
