Taiko Restaurant

I had dinner at Taiko Japanese Restaurant & Bar in Kingsland right next to the train station. Staff was very hospitable, warm and engaging and the service was excellent.

The menu was extensive so it was difficult deciding between a set menu and individual dishes. To help peruse the menu I ordered plum wine with soda.

After much deliberation, I settled the salmon sashimi and seafood salad which were impeccably presented on ice with embellishments of shell and twigs. The freshness of the fish was remarkable and the condiments of wasabi mayo and seaweed salad was exceptional. The seafood salad was my stand out dish of the night.

For hot dishes, I ordered pork gyoza and Taiko spicy prawns with special and yum yum sauces. These dishes were delicious too and very satisfying.

Overall my dining experience was wonderful and I discovered a new favourite so will return again. Highly recommended with distinction!

The Japanese food was delicious! I ordered salmon & avocado sushi and it was so good. The food was so fresh and their miso soup was very very tasty. The lady that served me was so polite and respectful she had a beautiful smile. Relaxing and calm atmosphere.

Has been my favourite Japanese restaurant in Auckland forever. The owner is always really friendly and really knows his food. I have never in over 10 years of going there had a bad dish. It would be my top pick of Japanese in the city and that is even after 6 weeks in Japan. Love this place!

This is hands down the best Japanese food in Auckland. You have to try 1 of everything! The staff here are amazing and the location is awesome right next to the kingsland train station.
