Der Metz

The food is rich but authentic German, well priced and it's possibly the most kitschy restaurant in Auckland. It's the sort of restaurant you expect to find at some working class Kitsch lake resort in Germany not far from Neuschwanstein.

We have always enjoyed the food here; large potions, and good beer. Things can get quite busy though, so worth turning up early.

Beware of the two portion schnitzel its absolutely and insane portion of food! Paprikaschnitzel with chips was good but i would definately go one portion maybe even to share as they offer alot of other food you could try as well. Beer selection fantastic go for the konig ludwig if you are a dark beer fan. Great service and the staff are freindly as. Fluent in german too!

They offer a very wonderful service with an amazing atmosphere.It is huge portions and cheap so if you love that this place is for you. Always have the schnitzel and the taste is amazing. My favourite is the cordon Bleu with the creamy mushroom sauce and potato salad. Everyone that comes here loves it.

Der metz is a favourite familiar pleasure for me and brings back memories of childhood when schnitzel and mash was a family staple. The decor is also nostalgic so it just brings back so many memories. The helpings are more than generous so be warned - be careful how much you order. In saying that the leftovers I took home with me were amazing the next day. The menu is extensive (every type of schnitzel you can imagine served with potato and sauce) and a great place for friends who like their meat, beer and big portions. The German beer on tap is always popular and as a winter dinner out it is delicious, filling and always consistent.
