Ascotia Off Queen

Stayed here January 2016 for 3 nights.
For the most part the stay was nice, room (queen bed) was standard with reasonable space and nice bathroom with a decent view of downtown Auckland. ($ 115/night)
Location was pretty good being on Queen street with lots of restaurants and shops near by.
Room was well kept by the housekeeping staff and front desk was very helpful with directions and luggage storage.
Wasn't too happy with noise reduction, we could easily hear the room next to us having a bit of a party. You could also easily hear people walking/talking and doors shutting from the hallway.
Other than a bit of noise this place was fair with their prices for the comfort and standard for their room.

It is nice for the price you pay, very clean. Few things were a bit annoying :
- On the double room bed we had 2 single mattresses together and very thin pillows
- The TV was not tuned and was impossible to watch
- The toilet paper holder in the toilet was broken, which means that you always have to turn around to grab it from the back of the toilet.
- Also it seemed that cleaners and maintenance people were around all the time, which yes, means that the hotel is clean, but it was pretty much impossible to catch an elevator without it being cleaned or used to transport paint buckets etc....
On the positive, the staff is polite, the gym is larger than average, but does not have lighter weights for women only 8kg and up, but has 2 tread mills, a bike and a rowing machine.
The room was clean and tidy, I would prefer a larger rubbish bin or an additional one and sweetner as an option in the tea box

The location was good and the price was quite affordable ($90/night) at the time we stayed here. Probably it is now not that cheap any more. Considering it was open only three years ago, the facilities were unsurprisingly new. On the downside, we booked a standard queen room which had a very compact room space. The sound proof was terrible and we were able to hear people walking and talking outside or in the next room. Fortunately this was not too frequent but it was definitely no good experience to be waken up at night. To be honest we didn't have awful experience here, but it didn't impress us either.

Rooms are good value for money. Small, but clean and tidy with good facilities. Our stay included free continental breakfast which was delicious. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Had the most amazing meal here I had the fettuccine which was faultless.. Great attentive service and great prices aswell, will definitely be back
