      A long running restaurant serving up authentic Malaysian & South Indian cuisine - the squid sambal has a kick and is delicious. Staff are friendly and service is fast & efficient. Big tables available so good for a large group.

      I was looking for an Asian restaurant in Wellington and walked past Istana. Checked it out on TripAdvisor and thought that it sounded good. It was! I started with the soto ayam soup, something I've never tried before. It tasted fantastic, although looking at it I was surprised it had so much flavour as it was quite clear. Next was beef rendang and coconut rice. Also delicious and not nearly as spicy as I thought it would be. Very efficient and friendly staff and an incredibly spacious restaurant!
