Cafe 35

We were off to Mt Hikurangi for the fabulous tour, and had been told we must stop for paua pies at Cafe 35... and aside from Cafe 35 being super groovy... the pies were out of this world. And i may never have another pie again, unless it is a paua pie from this joint. The police had just been in and bought 9, presumably for a stake-out, so we were lucky to get any at all... but boy oh boy, if you eat one thing in Tairawhiti, this is it.

The best coffee and scones in East Cape. And the best looking homemade pies I’ve seen in the North Island. Friendly staff, happy vibe. A must visit in Tokomaru.

We tried the pulled pork and Paua pie and both were fantastic. We had a couple of other things from the cabinet and they were also tasty. Great value for money as well. Well worth the stop.

Cafe 35 is a recently opened cafe situated along the main drag of Tokomaru Bay and we had heard a few ravings about their homemade Paua Pies so we had to try check out the espresso and food.

The customer service is simply exceptional as you get warmly greeted by the owner who exemplified her passion for food, hospitality and the area.

The coffee is excellent and as a must try, the Paua Pies are simply divine. Ample creamy Paua filling encrusted by thin light crispy pastry. It's the most exciting flavour experience to try. They also offer a Seafood Mornay pie which is delicious too. I highly recommend you get in to try these amazing pies and enjoy heavenly coffee too!

This place in a remote village with an incredible and tasty Pie! You already know minced beef with cheese or peppered steak Pies and you are full of them have to try this one: Mutton Curry Pie or (even better) the Paua Pie!
