What Makes Us Different
Kaituna Cascades stands out for its unbeatable location, experienced guides, and unmatched river thrills. As the first company to start rafting the Kaituna, we know every rapid, twist, and turn better than anyone else. We’re not a big chain — we’re a passionate local crew that loves what we do. Our guides are fun, highly trained, and focused on safety, making sure every rafter feels confident and looked after, whether it’s their first time or their fiftieth. Our base is located right beside the river, so there’s no long bus ride before your adventure begins. We keep group sizes manageable, maintain top-quality gear, and offer a relaxed, welcoming vibe that’s uniquely Kiwi.

This was one of those things you really have to try at least once in your life. I was lucky enough to do this twice in the same day!

The guides clearly know what they are doing, and kept things light and fun even during the risky patches where a mistake could prove dangerous if not fatal. But knowing that there is real risk is part of the experience and makes it that much more amazing afterwards.

The big waterfall varies in height and in risk levels - when the water level is high, it's actually safer to go over the falls, but I went when the water level was low, revealling more of the 'drop' which was super thrilling.

The adventure lasts almost an hour, but it doesn't 'drag on' at all - it feels like maybe 20 minutes, if you even bother to try and keep track of time.

Lots of fun, worth doing once, then again! My only issue was a few inappropriate comments by one of the guides. Sexual offers to female riders isn't a good look, seriously.

a mate bought me a ride on this as a surpise while I was in town and I really wasnt sure about going. I dont swim well and am not really comfortable in water. but I wasnt going to chicken out so went along for the ride. the crew are pretty laid back and casual but still make sure you know all the safety drill and have the right gear. they have tops to add warmth if it gets cold and even wetsuits for the really cold days but I went on a sunny day and it was comfortable in just shorts and a t-shirt, plus the helmet, safety boots and floatie jacket that are required. you get almost an hour on the water starting off with a few small rapids and you also get some swimming time. you dont get a choice in that, it is part of the safety drill to make sure you can rescue others or be rescued if anyone falls out. I have to admit I was pretty jazzed by the ride and even enjoyed myself despite thinking I wouldnt. the big waterfall is seriously freaky but in a good way. I even swam down one of the rapids which was scary AF but had me yelling in delight afterwards. not the cheapest ride you can do in the area but now on my top 10 list for the region. plan to go back and do it again!

Kaituna river rafting was one of the most exciting activities I have done. It takes us through a 7 meter high waterfall that will pump your adrenaline like no other. Hell yeah!!!!
