General Info
The Waitaki District lies in the heart of North Otago. From the Waitaki River in the north, to Ohau in the west and Flag Swamp in the south, the district has a diverse range of scenery and attractions. Traditionally a rural, and farming district, Waitaki's tourism market is growing rapidly. There are many attractions and activities, including beautiful lakes ideal for all sorts of water activities, ski fields, tramping, fishing and hunting, and beaches with great surf and brilliant white sand!. Oamaru is Waitaki's main town. In 2014 Lonely Planet named Oamaru NZs Coolest Town and it is! Home to around 12,000 people, Oamaru offers some pretty special things, the historic Victorian precinct (including Victorian Heritage Week), little blue penguins and Steampunk HQ. Further afield we have award-winning restaurants, wineries, craft breweries and special archaeological sites. The scenery is exquisite and second-to-none coastlines with white, sandy beaches, spectacular mountains, shimmering lake and extensive farmlands.

I have had a great experience with the dog control officer. I just moved to town and my dog escaped while i was unpacking. The dog control brought him back and gave me a warning. She was so lovely and friendly

Love to visit the Oamaru Botanic gardens when we are in town. Has been one of my favorite gardens since i was a child. Childrens play area, bird aviary and public toilets.
Small Chinese garden and stream. Relaxing!
