General Info
Regardless of whether you're already an avid gym goer, someone living with a chronic health condition, or simply looking to address your aches and pains, it is well worth booking in for a one-on-one consultation with our highly skilled Exercise Physiologist, David Waugh. If you're unsure of what Exercise Physiology is, this is understandable as the profession is currently not as established within New Zealand as it is across the ditch. Seeing an Exercise Physiologist is becoming very common in Australia due to the profession being recognised and funded by their Medicare scheme. Exercise physiology is the science of physical exercise. Exercise Physiologists are university trained (4 years minimum) and commit a considerable amount of their studies to investigating the effects of exercise on pathology, and the mechanisms by which exercise can reduce or reverse disease progression. They also receive a lot of training on the musculoskeletal system and how to rehabilitate painful muscle and joint issues. Their extensive training makes them highly skilled in the prescription of corrective exercise for: health and fitness improvements, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, or injury prevention. Your consultation will focus on having your muscle balance, biomechanics, any symptoms you're presenting with, and current exercise regime expertly assessed; resulting in you coming away from your appointment with meaningful alterations to your existing (or very first!) training routine. During your appointment you will also be put through supervised, one-to-one exercise, to help ensure that you learn how to exercise safely and effectively. David Waugh possesses a Master of Applied Science in the topic of Exercise and Health (with distinction), a Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine (with distinction), and a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science. He was also the 2018 recipient of an Excellence and Leadership Award from the Otago Institute of Sport, Exercise, and Health. He offers consultations from the Simply Feet Podiatry Premises (316 Thames Highway, Oamaru) on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Enquiries or bookings can be made via 03-437 9025
