Owlcatraz

Incredible tourist attraction about 1 hour+ from Wellington cbd. Lots of animals to interact with. Great family outing location.

owlcatraz is cool, we have been twice on alternate years. we miss big red, nevertheless the owls are lovely. they made a good effort with the glo - worm cave, just not natural unfortunately. still its fantastic for kids and those who don't get the opportunity to experience gloworms for themselves in their proper environment, such as river caves. nevertheless, a good time out for the family.

Highly recommend this place for kids and adults alike. I have been both by myself and with kids and it's great. The owl tour is fascinating and there are also animals to see.

Our children absolutely loved the tour and so did we. The guides were amazing and had so much knowledge on all the animals. There's a Himalayan goat and all sorts of crazy creatures. The owls were beautiful and we were lucky to have the owner show us them. The man made like had a 100 year old eel ! They have done a fantastic job of caring for the land and have planted so many native trees. They have a train which was fun and a playground for the children. Cheap also considering what they show you.

the tours they provide here are educational especially regarding new zealands wildlife. another neat feature is the old shannon jailhouse, and the train ride is fun for everyone.
