I love this museum - A local gem. Put your hand in your pocket and pay the $15 entry fee for adults - under 5s are free. The masts of the Rainbow Warrior are outside, there is a fantastic view over the Northern Wairoa and Dargaville and places to picnic. Inside the history of the area is well covered - step back in time and see incredible artifacts from waka and Pou, to a Piano Accordion collection and every thing you ever needed to know about gumdigging - the personalised spade of the diggers are very moving - and there is also a Maritime hall dedicated to shipping , ship wrecks and other marine history.

We took our visitors here, today. What an interesting museum! Situated in Harding Park, high on a hill, it gives you an amazing view over the Northern Wairoa River. Absolutely beautiful scenery to have a few selfies taken in. The exhibits cover local, maritime and gold rush history. Varied entry fees to suit the whole family. Well worth a visit. Recommended!
