General Info
Butterfly Creek are proud to host NZ's only giant saltwater crocodiles - the world's apex predators. Complimenting these reptiles is our magnificent tropical butterfly house, cotton-top tamarins and other reptiles such as the bearded dragon and alligators. We also host NZ's giant wetapunga - one of the world's largest insects and an aquaria and bugs exhibit including tarantulas. Beside the courtyard and playground, take a wee train ride around the new Dinosaur Kingdom that opened in Jan 2014 - see the dinosaurs come to life! Last but not least is Buttermilk farm where you can get up close and personal with the cute and cuddly animals. Butterfly Creek hosts fantastic all-inclusive children's parties and we run a behind the scenes Junior Keeper programme for those animal lovers. Animal encounters occur daily and we are open every day except Xmas & Boxing day and we are 50% undercover so don't let the rain put you off! We are situated 2 minutes from the Airport and provide a free shuttle service to and from the airport.

A great place for a day out. Lots to do and see here with animals to feed, rides, crocodiles and a great butterfly area to walk though. Lots of fun.

A great place full of varied entertainment for children. Adult ticket prices are super steep at $28 however, and you have to pay for their train ride. The train is two tiny laps around where you have just walked and saw most things. About 5mins max. The farmyard is certainly the highlight and the dinosaur kingdom has some impressive displays. Unfortunately we didn't spot any kiwi's and the butterflies seemed to be scarce in comparison to the numbers last time. The otter we're ADORABLE and therefore made it worthwhile.
The cafe has GREAT food, but again, super pricey. ($4.20 for a tiny plastic cup of jelly and two lollies).
It's a must do, but I'd say only once. Unless money ain't no thing or your kids are driving you crazy at home!

Such a good morning out for kids, all the things little boys like - tractors, trains, animals, crocodiles and dinosaurs, it has a great variety for the kids. Probably just a mornings worth to see and do.
