General Info

Butterfly Creek are proud to host NZ's only giant saltwater crocodiles - the world's apex predators. Complimenting these reptiles is our magnificent tropical butterfly house, cotton-top tamarins and other reptiles such as the bearded dragon and alligators. We also host NZ's giant wetapunga - one of the world's largest insects and an aquaria and bugs exhibit including tarantulas. Beside the courtyard and playground, take a wee train ride around the new Dinosaur Kingdom that opened in Jan 2014 - see the dinosaurs come to life! Last but not least is Buttermilk farm where you can get up close and personal with the cute and cuddly animals. Butterfly Creek hosts fantastic all-inclusive children's parties and we run a behind the scenes Junior Keeper programme for those animal lovers. Animal encounters occur daily and we are open every day except Xmas & Boxing day and we are 50% undercover so don't let the rain put you off! We are situated 2 minutes from the Airport and provide a free shuttle service to and from the airport.

Good onsite parking. Admission prices are a bit pricey but under 3s go free. Additional cost for the train ride but kids love it. The farm animals are great for preschoolers as can get up close and even touch the animals. Well run and looked after animal park. Always a good outing for the kids.

Very expensive day out. Train ride wasn't included in the entry prices which i would of expected it to be. Some enclosures were empty and the dinosaur displays were all over grown with grass. Feeding of the farm animals was ok but we couldn't feed the sheep as you cant get to them. Very disapointed.

The butterflies are absolutely stunning, we spent ages in the butterfly area reading all of the facts about them and watching them over the water. If you stay still enough they will land on you! The dinosaur part of the park was fun for the younger children as they got to run around and touch some of the display dinosaurs. Very good day out.
