This is one of very few pubs in Auckland (and maybe New Zealand) with genuine character and history.. it used to be a maritime police station and retains many historic features, along with a huge range of beers (over 100). It can be a little pricey because of this range often being bottled. Food has always been to a decent standard but plays second fiddle to the ambience.

Service was excellent. Attentive and friendly.
The food was pretty good, but nothing special. The chips were a standout. The pork ribs, while meaty, didn't have that really special rib flavour you hope for and would be better served as individual ribs, I think. The burgers were tasty. The pie also got a positive review. All meals were of a good size.
The drinks range here is pretty good, as you would expect. The price of a 330mL regular tuatara brew at $13 is pretty high. The beer paddle is reasonable value and a good way to try a few different fizzy drinks
