A lovely spot to take a break and stretch the legs. We stopped by this afternoon and had delicious hot coffee and nice choc chip biscuits. The cafe was quite empty, so the staff were very friendly and chatty. It's quickly becoming the favourite halfway stop for our family!
We found the view was better than the service. We asked for a small club sandwich to be made for an elderly friend and was given a strange look and a muttered answer. When it did arrive, they had not listened and the sandwich was huge, clumsy and unmanageable for the person to eat. Our food was OK. A shame, as the setting is beautiful.
We arrived at 12.00am and ordered lunch and coffees. Found a table by the window (love the view) but the dishes from the previous customer had not been cleared so we moved them over to the other end of the adjoining table. We waited. We waited some more. Watched as the Barista made some coffees then raced off to clear a table or two (not ours!) and then back to her coffee machine to make a few more coffees. At 12.30am our coffees were brought to us....with a request that we move from our table as a large group were arriving and would like the window seat. We were NOT impressed. We chose NOT to move from our table and expressed our annoyance at the extraordinarily long wait for our coffee and that our table had STILL not been cleared of the dirty dishes and food remains of the previous customers. We were told with great disdain, that they were terribly busy and would do it when they were able. Next moment two staff members thrust aside the chairs at the offending adjoined table, clattered off the dirty dishes, cups and glasses and stomped away. We were still waiting for our food to arrive. When it did, it was very good. Tasty and seemed value for money. Sadly this is not enough for us to ever return to the Kaimai Cafe. The staff were rude and did not seem to be able to cope with the number of customers arriving.
