Fun getaway with family. Awesome fun morning, great idea to go as soon as it opens as it gets very busy.

One of the best and one of most favorite entertainment places in New Zealand. everything there is amazing from the food. Highly recommended for a great for family day out.

My husband and I and our three kids, age 8, 6 and 1 visited Skyline during the April school holidays. Thanks to advice from you all on Tripadvisor, we arrived right on opening - 9am. This turned out to be an excellent decision, by about 10am there were hundreds of people there and the queue for the your first luge ride was very long (there is a separate line for people who are on their second or more luge ride, as they don't have to given instructions etc, and this line is always much shorter than the line for first timers).
By the time we left, at about 12.30pm, there were people everywhere.
We took the stroller up for the one year old, there was no problem putting it on the gondola, the staff were very helpful.
So my two older kids and husband had 4 luge rides each. My 1 year old went on one ride ($2 surcharge for him, the rules are your kid has to be able to walk and fit the helmet then they're good to go), but he didn't really like it so he stayed with me after that.
The views from the top are amazing, I would have loved to come back for dinner in the restaurant (but a one year old in a restaurant? No thanks!).
Its a touristy place, they have a photographer taking your picture in the gondola that they try to sell to you when you get off after your time at the top. But they aren't pushy at all, just gave us a big smile and off we went.
The Jelly Belly shop at the top is worth visiting too, and there are other little gift shops up there as well with New Zealand souvenirs. The prices didn't seem that ridiculous to be honest.
Overall I would recommend this place to families - but get there early. Take snacks and drinks up with you, and allow a couple of hours.

Stunning view from the gondola. The luge is fun. The view is even greater from the top and the restaurant is beautiful.
