Lakeside Veterinary Centre

We come from Upper Hutt to take our pets to Julia. It is well worth the trip. She is a kind and caring vet. People may not be her strong point but she certainly cares about her patients.

I took a wee bird in to the vet this morning that was injured by a cat. When I phoned up the woman told me to take it to the SPCA but after checking with the vet agreed I could take it there. I went in with my toddler and bird. They looked at the bird. I told them I would be happy to look after it if it just needed feeding etc as I'd done this before on a previous occasion when a bird was injured and the SPCA gave me food and antibiotics. The receptionist went out back to talk to the vet. I could overhear her snapping 'this isn't our problem'. I was quite shaken and offended at the attitude. I'm new to the area and a paying customer as my pets go there. I got a phone call shortly after to say that they would take the bird to be cared for by someone in Whitemans Valley. Although the outcome was good I'm upset by the attitude. When I asked the receptionist about the vets attitude she said the vet was stressed. Not good enough. I'll be moving my pets to another vet as a result of this which is a shame as these guys are local and have generally good reviews.

Early one evening our usual vet had an emergency that prevented them from dealing with our cats problem, however we were alarmed at the rate Mojo's face was swelling up. On the advice of a friend we gave this vet a call. They were busy closing for the day but offered to stay open longer while we drove 15 minutes. Upon arriving our unco-operative cat was dealt with professionally and with a gentleness that's rare to find in anyone who's been working in any medical field for many years. After spending the night Mojo had a tooth extracted. The bill was reasonable too. This demonstration of caring for a complete stranger's animal convinced us to make this our regular vet.

Another time I completely forgot my appointment. An hour later I got a friendly call to reschedule. I know how annoying it can be when people waste your time. Still they were happy, helpful and didn't charge me extra.

Would give more stars if I could.
