Visited today, looking at purchasing a new vehicle. Friendly salesman who wasn't pushy at all, great facilities and a wide range of new and used vehicles at competitive prices.

I took my car for a warrant of fitness to the Hamilton branch. Was called by the service department and advised the warrant could not be issued because there was a fault with the tyre and the tyre would have to be replaced. I said that I would pick up car and would organise a new tyre. We had only just purchased 4 new tyres, and I thought it more appropriate to return to the shop that supplied them. When I picked up the car, they charged me for work on the handbrake which I had not authorised. I did however think it was nice of them to fit the spare tyre, so that I could make the trip to the tyre shop. After driving from Fairview to the CBD, I removed the wheel from the boot and was surprised to find that Fairview had removed the faulty tyre from the rim. The tyre dealer asked to see the tyre to determine whether a repair could be made. I returned to Fairview, retrieved the tyre and returned to the CBD tyre shop. We discovered two faults with the tyre, a small hole made by a screw or similar where the screw had fallen out or had been removed, and a cut in the sidewall large enough for me to put two fingers through. The small hole I can understand but the cut would have instantly deflated the tyre and there is no evidence on the tyre to suggest the tyre was driven completely deflated. I returned to Fairviews and presented them with this. The service manager’s response was that he thought the cut in the side of the tyre was caused by the screw hole, and stated that we could not prove that they caused the cut. My belief is that the cut was caused on Fairview’s site, and they are right I cannot prove it but the evidence suggests the damage occurred whilst the car was in their care. Tyre replacement due to the sidewall cut is costing me in the region of $230. I also have an issue with them undertaking work on the car without my authority, in regard to the handbrake and tyre removal.
