What is the most important thing to look for in your lawyer? I believe it is the personal commitment to you as the client. Too often I have seen clients going to a firm on the reputation of a partner or a senior lawyer, then spending most of their time dealing with other staff in the firm. However, personal commitment is not enough by itself, it must be backed by good solid experience. I have spent the last 20 years of my legal working life working in a range of firms - accounting firms (KPMG, in Wellington) to a national law firm in Wellington (Buddle Findlay), to two of the largest firms in Dunedin (Gallaway Cook Allan & Webb Farry).
