Excellent lunch. The roast lamb was superb. Staff very friendly. Will be back to try other items on the menu

This place is a hidden gem. Atmosphere is very casual and menus are laminated and limited -- wine is relatively expensive for Auckland -- but oh, the food! Highly recommend the fried chicken (crispy and juicy) which comes with perfect patatas bravas, aioli, and sauce, a good value at $19. Also, the slow-roasted lamb with scalloped potatoes, which includes a small green salad (well-dressed) and bread which I believe had been rubbed with tomato and garlic -- also $19. The wine list is brief and on the expensive side with no bottles under $50 -- so we just had glasses -- but that worked well as we got to sample different kinds (nice to see some excellent Spanish wines on the menu including a white verdejo and a couple of good roses). Finally, we ordered a plate of manchego cheese which was outstanding -- well aged and strong, and one wedge had herbs in it -- served with more bread and a fig or quince spread -- which also came with some fresh greens, well-dressed and with tiny mandarin oranges on top. The perfect dessert, in my opinion. (The menu item called for iberico ham with the manchego, but we requested just the cheese, which was not a problem, and a good-sized portion for $14.). Note: this place is on a side-lane and is hard to find, but worth seeking out. The service is friendly and brisk, which we appreciated. Maybe not the kind of quiet place to linger for hours, but if you want delicious, well-prepared food at an excellent price, and can't get to Spain for a while, we highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed our meal at Madriz. It was funky and casual with very friendly staff. The meals were really nice and generous serves too. The charcuterie board was good and the restaurant is very central.

Great little tapas place, service was fantastic and the food and wine were great - both value and taste. Well worth a visit.

Come here for a cheap beer and delicious, authentic Spanish tapas. The croquets are perfect with a beer or we often get the 'grandmas' slow roasted lamb!
