      Been here several times and it doesn’t disappoint. Was here for lunch on Saturday. The place was packed yet staff was attentive and friendly. oysters and clams are as fresh as it can be. The gingerbread, tamarillo and custard is excellent. A petty they took away the bread & butter pudding off the menu.

      The Tongue was the best I’ve had in years. The Sliders and the lamb both top-class. My wife loved the Fergus marrow, but marrow has never been my cup of tea (yes, we practically had the entire menu). What made Depot stand out, though, was the staff. We were seated at the bar (something that I’m usually not keen on) and June (apologies if I misheard that. Tall girl, black hair, tattoos) took great care of us. She was very attentive and a great conversationalist. The night before we dined at Orbit 360 (the revolving restaurant close by) and I would definitely rate Depot higher.

      Hmm. Took my wife here for a special and rare night out without kids. Happily waited an hour plus next door at the amazing Masu bar. When finally seated we were excited, service and staff are 5 star, they work hard and fast. Great buzz in the restaurant too.

      But we just didn't think the food was sophisticated at all. I get that this is casual dining but we expected more inventiveness, more wow about the food. We shared the hapuka sliders, peach and prosciutto salad and the kingfish belly. All was nice but just nice not great, some flavours were imbalanced too. Overall we wouldn't go back unlike the deli or Masu, both next door.

      Have I spoken outside of the cult? Everyone seems to wet themselves over this place.

      Every time I visit I have an exceptional experience. The food is AMAZING. The very freshest ingredients, great flavour combos and staff that put the 'H' into Hospitality. Must try items include the steak, the sliders and the potato skins. Or if you work in the city, it would be a crime not to have a bacon buttie for breakfast one day. Keep up the great work!
