What makes us different?
We have been established since 1954 as your local panel beaters. We provide high quality workmanship and excellent customer service for minor or full body repairs and maintenance including. We have fourteen courtesy vehicles to support our business so you can still have transport.
Took our vehicle in June/July 2016 for a repair and the person I spoke with was very competent. We had to wait 6wks for a courtesy vehicle till the repair was done which took a week. Pretty normal. However, I discovered they'd left the fins out from the grill. Then I noticed they didn't replace a broken side lamp, just recessed it back in. Rang them up, took it back the following week, got the fins reinstalled back into the grill but was told the side lamp was my problem.
Rang my insurer and asked where to now, and they said nope, Smith & Boyle need to repair the side lamp as that was part of the quote State had sent. Rang Smith & Boyle back up, told them this and they said to bring it in end of the week. I did, they replaced it, thank god that was over or so I thought.
Went for a WOF week before Christmas 2016 and the mechanic told me the headlamp (the one Smith & Boyle had replaced) was faulty. I said that was impossible as I'd just had it replaced via my panel beater. He said I needed to get back into contact with them. I did and they said bring the car in for an inspection.
I did that, and one of their blokes said it was naff, probably because a part had "fallen off". He then told me he'd order another headlamp that day and to bring the vehicle back in that Friday where they'd replace it while I waited. Another week went by.
Stupidly hoping to get this done before Christmas, I rang them last Friday morning to confirm having our car finally repaired and guess what? The lady I spoke to said there was nothing on my file/details but she'd sort it out and ring me back. She didn't. They reopen on 9th January 2017 and our simple repair job is ongoing still.
Pretty over ringing Smith & Boyle but it is what it is. Maybe we just got the short end of the straw; maybe all their other jobs go swimmingly, I don't know. They're nice people but their communication is zilch - you'll do ALL the ringing if things go pear shaped - and as you can see from our ongoing experience, I'd rate them poorly both to others and State. I think they're just so busy with so many vehicles (50 coming out the week I went in, or so I was told) you can get missed in the crush.
I would strongly recommend you go to a smaller, local panel beater. There's a guy in Greerton on Oropi road I used for our family station wagon a couple of years ago (not accident related) and he was awesome. Can't remember his details though.
