very nice place if you are out in whangarei and looking for indian food. we were coming back from cape reinga and all 3 of us was really very hungry as there's hardly any place to eat during that long drive. Ambiance is really soothing inside and it gives you a feel of indian touch inside. really very neat and clean place. we had Kadhai chicken which was very tasty and paneer 2 piaza which was also good with naan and the rice was complementry as usual. overall, the experience was good, the manager took the order personally and was very good at it. good service and price was also fine. not too expensive not too cheaper (mid range). definitely would go there again whenever we visit north.
If someone is looking to have some delicious Indian food in whangarei i think Shiraz is the best place. I always do takeway from walton street branch. Always satisfied with quality and quantaty of food.
went for dine in twice and both time i enjoyed very nice and quick service.....
The Butter chicken here is my favourite. Its cooked in a tandoor oven and i really like the texture and smoky flavour it creates. People might say the portions are small but we order an entree, and a main with garlic naan each and struggle to finish the whole meal. Any more would be a waste, and the food is creamy and rich.
The prices are good value. With drinks added a meal for two costs around $30 each. I often ask the waiters and waitresses about their language and have learned Sasriga means hello and Chenga means thanks. Theyre quite friendly to engage and share their culture. Jas the owner is a friendly host who will take the time to sit and talk with you if hes not too busy. On facebook you can get updates with their specials and signing up on the newsletter list gets you deals including specials on your birthday.
Places like this make me angry. They are the only Indian place in town with no competition so they think they charge ridiculous prices for bad food. I look forward to the day another Indian eatery opens up.
where to begin??. Bad food which you can hardly call Indian rather sauce with a couple of chunks of meat. With such measley portions of meat you would expect the meat to be decent quality - but no. And to top it all off they will charge you the earth. You ever have such a bad dining experience you feel someone actually took advantage of you and ripped you off - and there is nothing you can do. There's a reason the are so many empty tables - stay away. Half a star was because the staff were nice.
We have dined in and taken out at the City store. The curries are definitely pretty tasty but they are a bit tight on the meat at times, especially for the price you pay. But the flavours are good, which is the main thing.
We have had some very comical times service wise. Luckily we have never been in a hurry, as we have had the Indian version of Fawlty Towers, with waitresses taking plates away before we have eaten, bringing mains before entrees, taking our order to the wrong table, etc. All pretty funny, but would be frustrating if in a hurry or with a big group of people
