The cafe and grounds are lovely. Have stopped in here a few times on road trips and have always enjoyed it. They have the right idea with their gift shops however I find them overpriced and crowded. It's cool to see the "castle" being built as well.
Unfortunately the children's menu doesn't really exist nor match the amazing playground they have its very elaborate and children can spend hours on it. Everytime I've been there the only option for a Gluten Free sweet is Orange cake..watery and bland. Coffee good. be prepared for the cold where a jacket
Beautiful food, massive garden and an outdoor playground for the kids. A few animals to look at and a gift shop.
Gift shop is filled to the brim but quite a let down. Stock is old and most is dusty, some stock is even under tables on the floor because they've clearly run out of room. A lot of tacky pocket money styled "gifts" that are over priced.
Check out their Facebook page for updates and customer bashing ( they seem to think they're quite funny)
Worth the trip out of town, or a spot to drop into on your way to Oamaru from Christchurch. We go there once or twice a year for not only the restaurant which has an amazing array of foods on offer with most sourced locally from their own kitchen garden which you can walk around but also the great trinket gift shops and farm atmosphere, add Dot's Castle to the backdrop and it is a fun filled day for all. Have to admit to spending a little too much money when there but all pieces brought have been worth it.
Visited here en route home after a trip to Christchurch. Since opening have always made this a stop on long SH1 journeys. Great coffee, great food and the playground is awesome for kids to burn off steam in. Today it was a coffee, a play and a check up on the castle progress.
