The NZ Retail Association keeps bleating on about how the NZ Government is missing out on hundreds of millions of dollars of tax take due to overseas online shopping sites not paying GST.
Instead of looking to blame others on their problems, NZ Retailer's membership should first be looking at themselves and asking why kiwis are looking overseas to buy the goods in the first place. The truth is that kiwis have been ripped of by local retailers/distributors for too long and are now waking up.
In truth adding 15% to online purchases won't make that much of a difference, especially when a shopper might be saving over 50% over the price gouging going on in the NZ retail space.
We all hope that the NZ Retail Association makes enough noise to encourage the Amazon retail juggernaut to bring a North and South Island fulfillment center to NZ, and then Amazon join the NZ Retail Association as a lifetime member, then everyone would be happy right?!
