After an invite to dine at the The Mustard Seed Malaysian Cafe & Restaurant by a friend who had purchased coupon online, I decided to browse the reviews beforehand and scope out parking. With mixed reviews trending towards the lower end of the spectrum my did not set my expectations very high.
Upon arrival I had to re-evaluate my judgement entirely. We were greeted immediately by friendly staff and as my friend and his partner were stuck in traffic were ushered to comfortable seating to wait for their arrival.
Once all dinners had arrived we were ushered to our table by a very polite waiter who explained the menu in great detail and the choices available on the set menu when using a coupon. After inquiring about allergy requirements we were greeted personally by the chef who was more than happy to answer our questions and cater to our dietary requirements.
The coupon entitled us to a set menu consisting of an appetiser, soup, a main and dessert, of which there was a great selection to choose from in each course. The length of time between courses was a tad long but all food was well presented and served hot. Staff also checked on our satisfaction with every course and provided witty banter (special acknowledgement must go to the waiter wearing the cap). Requests for takeaway containers for leftovers was also well received and containers were offered.
Although The Mustard Seed Malaysian Cafe & Restaurant have received a brad rap in the past, it was evident on this particular Monday night that staff had taken all feedback on board an were making a concerted effort to go above and beyond expectations.
My wife and I dined here after buying a voucher on Groupon. Food was good but the mains were brought out lukewarm. Five mins later and the mains were cold. As we had already eaten soup & an entree we hoped we could have the rest to take home. After requesting a take away container, the waiter returned from the kitchen to announce the chef would not allow this as we had gotten a deal on Groupon. This is ridiculous. I wonder if i could have offered money to take home our half eaten meal? My wife and I eat out a lot and had been meaning to try here for a while. Its a real shame we left with such a sour taste in our mouth as we would have been back plenty had we had a good experience. Thumbs down to The Mustard Seed. I do not recommend this place!
We went to the Mustard Seed as it advertised Malaysian food. The food was nice although not quite as authentic as we would have liked. On a Thursday evening only us and two other tables and unfortunately the ambiance really let the place down. Bright lights and elevator music did little to inspire. However if you are looking for well priced food that isn’t too spicy might be worth a shot.
