Marian McDermott School of Dance is based in Torbay and is a long established and leading North Shore dance school. We teach Ballet and Contemporary Dance to students of all ages and abilities.
Principal Dance Tutor Marian McDermott has been teaching ballet for over 25 years. She is joined by several experienced dance tutors who specialise in a range of dance styles. Many of the tutors trained through the dance school and have now returned to assist others develop a love of dance.
Our focus is on providing positive programmes, where everyone is acknowledged and encouraged to excel to the best of their abilities. This includes not having examinations, to ensure everyone experiences equal enjoyment from dance.
Each year the students have the opportunity to perform on stage in our fabulous annual show. The show is always very creative and entertaining and considered the highlight of the year. The tutors work hard to help the students to achieve a high standard of performance.
Our highly regarded youth dance company "One Step Beyond" is famous for providing an environment where we foster the talent of our young dancers so they can continue on toward a career in contemporary dance. Students involved in this part of the school work with professionals from the contemporary dance industry, and are provided with chances to choreograph dance works as well as take part in performances. One Step Beyond has been selected to perform at the first Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival YDance in Scotland July 2014. This is a huge achievement and we are all very proud of what our talented young dancers have achieved.
Classes are timetabled from Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 8pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to Midday.
