Ok for a visit occasionally, it's really loud and very noisy especially on a fine day in Newmarket, jammed with people, overlooks the little grassy area. Serves quite delicious burgers and pizzas, portions are really satisfying, and a nice array of craft beers.
Conveniently located in Newmarket, The Lumsden is a nice spot to go when the weather is fine. They have plenty of outdoor seating and equally plenty of craft beer to choose from. The bar staff will recommend something based on your taste if you ask. Inside is a bit tight/noisy - so best enjoyed outside.
The Lumsden is a boutique local bar at the corner of Khyber Pass and Broadway. The location near the bus stops makes it a good place to pop in for a drink and a nibble, especially on a wet day (as the bar area, inside and outside, is covered). The Lumsden has a great selection of craft beers, with more than the average pub selection. They also have a pretty good whiskey selection - with varying price levels. Wines and soft drinks selection is similar to most other bars in the general area.
There are gaming machines for those who like a flutter - with multi-jackpot levels. And a nice touch (besides the free water on the bar required by law) is free popcorn. Yes, anyone can help themselves from the free popcorn machine - a nice free nibble with your pint.
Food quality is ok (nice, but not stunning) - but not the best value in town. The pizzas are excellent, the burgers are ok (but can take a while to come, from my own personal experience). Staff are sometimes super friendly, and sometimes not bothered - it really is hit and miss and seems to depend who is on the bar at the time.
Worth a visit if you're in the area. Particularly nice for outside courtyard seating in summer. In winter, a good place to catch up with friends or work colleagues due to the long table seating outside - makes it easy to assemble a group on the table.
WORST SERVICE EVER!!! LAZY!!! RACIST!!! STAFF.
I am not a person to write a review unless it was really good or really really trully bad and horrible.
I was so disgusted with their service and how they treat a customer.
The bar has a great atmosphere and It's a such a shame to have such a lazy, racist staffs.
I asked to be served and was totally ignored by all four staffs for over 10mins. and it wasn't even busy.
one lazy blonde waitress was sitting at the bar folding napkin and told me to ask someone else on the other side of the bar for service.
and I was totally ignored by that other staffs as well for another 5mins. he finally told me to go back to the other side of the bar again and wait to be served while he serves other customers.
I went back to the other end of the bar again and was finally served by that lazy waitress and only reason she stood up was there were another lady waiting to be served.
when I complained to the manager he actually said 'If you don't like our service don't come back'
Yea I will never ever go back to that place again and DO NOT recommend this place to anyone!!!
Go for the Food, Stay for the Beer
The Lumsden, Situated in the heart of Newmarket provides a relaxing spot for a bite to eat and a drink after some shopping or a trip to the nearby movie theaters. They provide an ample selection of bar appropriate food such as Pizza , Wings or fries but the real attraction is the large selection of Boutique beers served alone or in the form of a beer paddle sampler.
Celebrated my b'day here last night, even with the rain it had a great atmosphere and love the Pacific Fusion Vaione Gin cocktails and really yummy pizzas (can't decide if I loved the duck or the blue cheese and pear pizza the most). Will definitely be back!
Had a birthday drinks here. Small place but good atmosphere for a Thursday night. They had some cheap cocktails for $10 - Pacific Fusion which were really good, but they ran out of the Vaione Gin early in the night so we couldn't have any more of those. :( They have free popcorn which goes down a treat.
