Travelled around the South Island with Intercity and they did an amazing job. The knowledgable bus captains provide amazing commentaries which is really informative with reasonable breaks. Website-wise, I find it hard to navigate. Can never seem to find overnight buses (or maybe its just me).
I always travel with intercity bus as i have been with them for such a long time. I know the schedule, where they stop and how long we get for a break. I can even plan a short shopping trip in Taupo while we stop over. I like the route they take to Auckland which is why i continue to travel with them.
I have found the bus is a much cheaper alternative to flying and when i catch the overnight bus i am not wasting a day - i can just sleep on the bus overnight. The night trips are very long but they don't have alot of stops so its great to just settle in and take a nap. The seats are comfortable and recline slightly which is great especially if you get a window seat.
They have these new premium seats which i got the last time i traveled with them. They are much more comfortable and a little bit wider than the normal seats. They are also at the front of the bus so you can get on and off earlier.
Good service, always runs on time and the bus is always clean and tidy. I like that the stops aren't to long which means we get to the destination faster. There are curtains if you want to cover the window, but its nice to watch the countryside go past with the window clear.
Great service and easy to use website for finding low fares. Wide range of pick up/drop off locations for those of us not near main centres. Most bus drivers are friendly and helpful with a handful being comical which makes a long trip a bit more interesting.
I love Intercity when I'm travelling around the country, like the previous reviewer said it is a more pricey than its competitors but offers a better quality service overall - big, comfortable coaches, free wifi, smaller number of passengers (most of the time) so you're more likely to get your own seat row. I like that the intercity drivers provide commentary, some of them I can recall offering interesting bits of information regarding the geographical area and the local economy, what a great idea!! Also if you join the rewards program you can get some really good discounts off the final cost of your booking. Well worth it, and I will always be a fan!
