Last Wednesday (07.12.16), I requested flight information for a 2-day conference in Nelson next March, stating a preference for flights from Kapiti Airport and giving the time the conference started. The agent advised that the other agent I had emailed was away so she provided me with flight information as follows:
Departure Wellington to Nelson March16 arriving after 8.0am, Departure Nelson to KAPITI Airport March 17 2000hrs. Please note I was given two "home" airports over 50 kilometres apart." I also acknowledge no flights from Kapiti to Nelson on March 16.
I wrote back expressing disappointment that 1) the flight to Nelson would result in my missing the first part of the conference and 2) my flights to Nelson were from one Airport and the return home to another. I queried where I should park my car. I also took exception to her addressing me as "Hi" without using my name.
The agent swiftly responded apologizing stating she did not realize I would be upset and she had needed more information and would get the relevant flight information the next day (Thursday 8th December).
For my part, I initially thought the agent had made a reasonable point so I apologized to her in my reply. However, I have now discussed the matter with an agent from another travel firm who agreed with me that it is "very unusual" for a client to be provided two different "home airports" and should only have been done if I, the client, had stipulated I was okay with 2 different airports. She also agreed that I had supplied the conference start time and arriving at the airport within an hour of the conference starting would be cutting it fine and leave me dependent on flights arriving on time and ease of access to a shuttle and she would have given the client the option of a flight the night before.
Here I am Monday 12th December and the HRG agent who promised to get back to me on Thursday 7th December still hasn't got back to me with the information she promised to provide last Thursday. I had hoped to put my application into management last Friday but it still remains incomplete.
I wish to state I never had any problems making inquiries and bookings through the agent, Ms Honey Santos, I have used in the past and who I initially contacted but who was away on leave. I guess I will have to wait until she returns from leave.
