I have a 3 year old Parmco free standing 900mm oven. Approximately 3 weeks ago the fan bake element failed and was not heating up. I made enquiries with Parmco who suggested the fault would usually be the fan bake element itself and supplied one direct to me. I replaced this myself but the fault was still evident, so thought I had best contact a local appliance repairer in Taupo.
I browsed the internet and found K & M Hodge who are ECANZ accredited so without any hesitation made enquiries about them coming to assess and repair the oven. I was quoted $171.35 including GST for an inspection fee.
I thought this was a bit expensive but realised it’s a 30 minute return journey to my house and probably an hour on site so agreed the price and made the booking. I then received an email requiring full payment up front before any call out, a bit strange I thought but made a direct credit payment overnight as requested.
Ken Hodge called at my house the next day. He spent a maximum of 30 minutes on site at my house and confirmed to my wife that the element was fine. That was it ! My wife who watched him continuously throughout his inspection did not carry out any diagnosis of what was faulty. He spent all his time writing notes and then left. I was not impressed when I got home from work. $171.35 for 1 hour maximum including 30 minutes return driving time.
I left it a few days in the belief Ken Hodge would contact me after discussions with Parmco, after all he had made enough notes presumably to get more information from Parmco. How wrong I was! I called into see Ken Hodge and see how things were progressing with the diagnosis of the fault on my oven. He seemed surprised to see me, as if his task was done! Unbelievable. I don’t pay someone $171.35 to tell me what I already know that the fan bake element is not working but the fault is somewhere else. I quizzed Hodge on this but answers were not forthcoming, he was vague and evasive. I have never ever been treated like this as a customer and am totally astounded by his treatment of both my wife and myself. I requested an invoice detailing what work he has performed and confirm what parts or repairs are required. He has refused point blank as this was not requested, part of the original job. What ! So you don’t provide any evidence or detail of what you actually do. I find it unbelievable in this day and age that this place is actually in business and approved/accredited by ECANZ. Do you not have any standards of trading policy, expectations of your accredited members.
