A very stylish local cafe with an absolutely delicious a la carte menu and cabinet display food. My favourite dessert has been the fresh cream raspberry lamington which was so moist and flavoursome with long shredded cococnut. The espresso is fantastic too although expect a wait during peak times. Best to visit in their quiet period.
This cafe generally has quite bad service and very unpleasant staff. However, Worst ever service I experienced on 15 September, when I went there to buy a coffee and was told there may be a wait for 10 minutes. I paid and waited to see all the coffees were served excluding me.
They all started giggling and playing with each other, after about 18 minutes wait, I decided to leave without a coffee since there was not attention whatsoever from any of the staff. Not a single explanation or an apology for the delay. I returned their token number after about 22 minutes and walked out without a refund. I had not a single person out of about 5 staff wondering around talking to me or even asking to get a refund.
So if you are looking for quite an experience to be disregarded, this is the place!
So it's a modern 'trendy' cafe, looks great, food good, friendly staff so it's a four from me. BUT as a coffee bore I was disappointed in the espresso, average earthy flat palette, roasted too dark for espresso in my opinion. Also had a piccolo to balance my review of their coffee and that was better. So I guess if you like milk based coffee then no problem just not for the heads
I usually just go for coffee and a scone (fab savoury scones by the way - such a treat) but this time ordered off the menu. I had the open steak sandwich which was delicious. Really beautifully steak cooked to perfection and combined with salad, on top of a piece of ciabatta with crumbled cheddar. A must try and plentiful serving - you could easily omit the bread and be full as a bull
Pete makes a great coffee and always has time for a chat no matter how busy he may be making coffees. Very nice atmosphere and a cool space. Ask them about their giant teaspoon. Worth a try if you are in or around ellerslie.
Our local cafe - we can be found here 3 days out of 5. The gentleman behind the counter knows how to make a great coffee and is an awesome dude. The food (particularly the little bacon & egg numbers on the counter) is sensational!
