The flooring sector is closely linked to the fashion industry and new trends continue to emerge. Among them is the resurgence of textured carpets and natural tones, with new lines arriving in-store on a regular basis. Because The Flooring Centre recognise that carpet is a major investment, they offer the services of qualified interior designers who will give professional advise that can often make all the difference in the success of flooring projects.
Carpet is still the most popular floorcovering choice in New Zealand homes. The Flooring Centre is an approved Wools of New Zealand retailer with over 1500 different carpet options available for your home or business. The showroom houses ranges including leading brands such as Feltex, Godfrey Hirst, Robert Malcolm, Cavalier Bremworth Commercial, Norman Ellison Carpets and Irvine International Floors.
Additionally, The Flooring Centre has a huge range of 100 percent nylon carpets available. These are becoming increasingly popular as clients discover the benefits of hard wearing, stain resistant carpet that looks and feels like wool. An entire area of The Flooring Centre is dedicated to displaying nylon carpets, including a helpful DVD that is played in-store to assist with choice and highlight benefits. Experienced staff, including our in-house interior design consultant, are able to help you through this minefield of choice.
It is incredibly hard to tell the difference from the real thing. Vinyl flooring can offer many advantages over timber and tile products such as quieter underfoot, easy cleaning, softer, less seams and less costly.
We even have non-slip vinyl flooring which offers greater safety or for those wet areas. A major revolution in vinyl flooring has been the introduction of ¿Luxury Vinyl Tiles¿ which are extensively displayed at The Flooring Centre.
We pride ourselves in our knowledge, understanding and experience in solid timber flooring. We can advise on and source, nearly any timber species suitable for flooring use, (we only supply timber harvested from environmentally sustainable managed forests). From there we follow a strict installation procedure, ensuring that your beautiful new timber floor will remain trouble free on your floor for years to come. We have our own skilled craftsmen to take care of everything from the floor preparation, moisture barrier and installation process, right through to the sanding and polyurethane application.

What makes us different?
Steve and Val realised that there was a need in the market for a floorcovering retailer to provide the whole package including: Carpet, Vinyl, Timber and Tiles for all markets both Residential and Commercial. The Flooring Centre was opened in April 2003 to meet this need, if it goes on the floor, The Flooring Centre can supply it.
Bad experience for us with the Flooring Centre. Specifically we have issue with how the arranged the installation and their choice of installers. The installer originally showed up at the wrong house (I got a phone call that simply said ‘I’m at your front door’… errrr no you’re not). OK mistakes happen. When I told the guy our garage was full of our stuff and could take the carpet round the side of the house he responded 'you're f**king kidding me'. We went to quite a lot of trouble to clear everything from our house to make the job as easy as possible for the installers and that is the reaction we get.
We mentioned to the Flooring Centre FIVE times that we needed some smoothedge to be replaced along with the new carpet. Two of these times were in writing (which we still have) and we were assured by the store manager that ‘our team will be taking some smoothedge to your home’. When the installer arrived I mentioned the smoothedge and he said ‘oh we don’t have any’. Note my father (a retired teacher was witness to this whole mess).
I had specifically enquired about the installation staff used by the Flooring Centre to the sales representative when I first went into the store and again when talking to the installation scheduler and asked for ‘someone good’. This is what we got.
The Flooring Centre initially booked in a day for the installation which I arranged with my employer. The carpet itself was delayed (which we were fine with) then the install was rescheduled, now for two days (?). Again I have this in writing. I therefore rearranged the leave with my employer for two days. The installers then appeared to rush the job to finish within one day to go off to another one.
We had received no confirmation the day before that the installation was still occurring and what time the installers would arrive so I (as the customer) emailed instead to confirm. I have no idea why we couldn’t have got a 30 second curtesy phone call to confirm installation but this obviously isn’t the Flooring Center’s approach to customer service. It took nearly half a day before they finally responded.
In my opinion the final result was poor. We had some areas that appeared to have been installed in a hurry and were clearly not laid properly. We have photos of these areas. We had another installer (much better this time luckily) remedy these problems. On the second visit he told us ‘I’ve spent all day fixing other people’s work’. I think that sums up the quality of work in my opinion you can expect to get from the Flooring Centre.
We went out of our way (as the customer) to try and make this whole process as smooth as possible but do not feel the Flooring Centre responded in kind. When someone purchases carpet it is the entire experience from making the purchase to getting it installed that matters - not just being all smiles when someone signs up. I would not recommend them to anyone.
