I would highly recommend Dr. Specs Glasses Repair to anyone needing optical frame/jewellery repairs in Christchurch.
The shop itself is located in an unassuming lane and cannot be seen from the road but is well worth the visit. Went in this morning to get a simple screw put back in the hinge of a pair of glasses. Not only did they fix the problem, but they also tightened the other side to prevent this happening again.
Service was great, friendly and completed within minutes. Very genuine people, thank you!
Very fast and affordable service! As seen in the photos above, I snapped my acetate (plastic) frame just above the lenses, causing the lenses to fall out. I went around to Optik and Auckland Uni optometrists and they both said that my glasses could not be repaired at all and that I would need new frames and lenses. As you all know that can be very expensive, especially if you have astigmatism or require bi-focal lenses. So i did some research and found two companies in NZ who specialise in glasses repair: SOS Eyewear and Dr Specs. SOS Eyewear told me the repair would take close to two weeks. These were my only pair, so that was too long for me. However Dr Specs quoted they could do it under a week. They got my frames Monday morning and I received them back in Auckland on Wednesday morning. The total cost, including the return shipping, was only $45.
The repair itself was reasonably well done for something that told to be impossible by many optometrists. The inserted pins between the crack and applied a string resin around it. There is a small raised spot around the old fracture point, but not too noticeable unless you're looking closely. The photos show this better. For the price of the repair, I'm more than happy with the quality of the work.
