We were part of a large group celebrating a special event. Staff were attentive and pleasant. We all had the two course set menu. We checked out the menu on-line before we went, so we wouldn't have to deliberate too long when we arrived. The website did say that the menu might change, however the menu on the night was completely different from the online menu! So we chose different options. I had the lamb rump which was beautifully cooked, and came with a small amount of very nicely presented vegetables and sauce. My husband had the beef steak which was a little too red for his liking, he asked for mediam rare, and was quite a small amount - not really enough for a man sized meal. Both meals had minimal amounts of vegetables. For dessert I had a rhubarb crumble, it was OK but the rhubarb was not like the rhubarb I grow in my garden. Maybe it was tinned? More like the consistancy of lightly cooked celery, and it didn't have much taste. Came with a small scoop of ice cream. My husband had the chocolate dessert, a strip of very bitter chocolate fudgey stuff, with a small scoop of ice cream. He also had two beers, and no more, as he said they were very pricey! This was our first time back to the Cobar for 5 years, and unfortunately we were disappointed that the experience was not as good. The meal was $50 per head, and i felt we did not get value for money. The desserts were disappointing and the mains were very small.
Really good food and a great menu. Moa beer on tap as well which is a big plus! Staff were attentive and have a great balance of great service and not being obtrusive. Lovely outlook over the bay. Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a top-end meal in a relaxing atmosphere away from the city bustle.
