THINK HIRING AN APPRENTICE IS HARD WORK? THINK AGAIN!
CadetMax (the Auckland Chamber of Commerce apprenticeship programme), is about making apprenticeships as easy as possible for employers.
Employing an apprentice can be risky, not to mention all the extra paperwork and compliance costs it brings.
Recognising this, the Chamber and Ministry of Social Development have launched CadetMax, a scheme that takes away the hassle and risk for you, the employer.
At its most basic CadetMax takes on the responsibilities and expense of hiring and recruiting an apprentice, but the scheme offers much more than that.
How it works
An apprentice is someone who is in paid employment with a company and is learning the trade on the job. To gain the appropriate qualification the apprentice will have the skills they have learnt on the job assessed and will also attend courses with an education institute. CadetMax apprentices are young people aged between 16-18 years from South Auckland who have decided to leave school. Only 100 apprentices will be accepted into CadetMax in 2008.
- select the candidates and deliver a 2-week Induction course covering job readiness, Site Safe Passport and skills testing
- find suitable employers and place apprentices with them
- organize all training, external industry assessment and poly-tech courses
- mentor the apprentice in their workplace
- provide numeracy, literacy and additional training (e.g. forklift licence).
What's more, CadetMax employs the apprentice, not you. This means CadetMax is involved in all aspects of managing the apprentice and seconds them to a host employer, benefiting both parties. Cadet Max
